As someone who grew up in St. Petersburg, I've always felt that the city's soul lies beyond its iconic landmarks. Postcard-like views, cathedrals, and embankments feel a bit too polished and picturesque; they are of the likes of what travel agencies sell. Authentic St. Petersburg isn't far; you only need to step away from the main streets. 

Side streets and courtyards feel like an old town within an old town. From luxury apartments to Soviet 'kommunalkas', every place tells its story. It is a real microcosm of the city, housing everything from hotels and nightclubs to offices and small shops. These are the streets where you witness the true rhythm of the city's daily life.
