This is a personal project I made in around 2022, 2023. A short comic strip, slice of life type, recreating a short scene in a Vietnamese TV series.
Back then, I accidentally came across this series aired on the Vietnam National Channel. The plot concentrated on the life of one famous poet in Vietnam - Han Mac Tu. He was well-known for his literature talent, his tragic life, and his grief and sorrow for his own disease status.
In the scenes I illustrated, he was found to have caught an untreatable disease (only back then, leprosy), leading to his quarantine and fear from people around him. A servant boy working for his home brought him daily meal prepared carefully with love from Han Mac Tu's mother, but unfortunately dropped all. Han Mac Tu later tried to reimagine the food through description of the servant boy. I really found this scene poetic.
