Harmony in Disarray

In the series of frames lays bare the reality of Ventanas coastal zone, once a quaint town near the port of Valparaíso, Chile. Today, it stands transformed into a sacrifice zone, where dissonant moments unfold, as depicted through this collection. It is staggering how our species has been compelled to adapt to conditions imposed by corporations, shaping and intervening in the territory for the benefit of a few. Meanwhile, the native people of these affected places find themselves with limited recourse.
To illustrate this, we delve into the story of Victor, a fisherman along the shores of Ventanas. Despite the heavy metals in the waters, he adapts to the conditions, persisting in his fishing endeavors. Similarly, Rodrigo, despite environmental complications, brings his daughter to the same beach invaded by industry. It is the only space he can share with her.
Chilling scenes unfold, such as the discovery that the main river supplying water to the town originates in a reservoir touching the industrial waste depot in Ventanas. This brings even more pollutants that historically have damaged the quality of life for those living there, impacting both current and future generations.
Another crucial point to underscore is the lack of maintenance in these industrial plants, with leaks and dismal conditions leading to sporadic chemical spills, further jeopardizing the well-being of the town's inhabitants. Ventanas is a city in sacrifice, resilient in the face of adversity. These images seek to project its plight, serving as a call to attention, an appeal for awareness, and an urgent plea for change.
