Sofia Hallik's profile

Set design & exhibition management 2018

In the creation of the "Tangibility Matters" exhibition, I undertook the roles of jewellery artist and set designer, weaving together traditional craftsmanship with contemporary digital technologies. The solo exhibition, which took place in the ARS Project Room in Tallinn in 2018, showcases a series of wearable objects, which are a part of my doctoral research. The works presented during the exhibition originate from two contradictory principles: digital production and hand work, and embody the mutual closeness of human and the machine — while people approach the digital world, technology becomes more and more humane.
As a set designer, I intentionally revealed the technical aspects typically hidden when showcasing jewellery or any other art form. Transparent PVC, large 3D render prints, and specialised equipment were integrated to expose the creative process. This departure from traditional presentations invites viewers to appreciate both the art work and the intricate journey, bridging the gap between craftsmanship and digital technology.
