Japanese Notan Project

Japanese Notan
In this student project, students were asked to create a Japanese Notan cut out from a 5x5 in. square of black paper. In order to create this, you need to choose a design that can be flipped along any of the square's sides to create an image. For this project I chose a frog on a log in the rain. As a part of the project, we were also to create a series of rough sketches as well as detailed thumbnails.

Client: Student Project
Role: Production Artist
Size: 5x5 in.
Software/Media: Black Construction Paper
Rough Sketches and Thumbnails
On the left side are the rough sketches that started off my Notan project. And on the right side and middle are the more structured and detailed thumbnails that led to my final Notan design.
