This process for this project included brainstorming 20 thumbnails and selecting the strongest sketch to turn into a Japanese Notan. Then, using a pencil, the strongest concept was redrawn on a 5" x 5" square of black paper from the Digital Design Kit. Using an X-Acto knife and cutting mat, the shapes from inside the square were carefully cut and flipped along the appropriate axis to create knockouts. The cut-out was placed in the middle of a piece of sketchbook paper and secured using a glue stick. Lastly, the brightness, scale, and curves of the final Japanese Notan photo were edited in Photoshop.
