PSA Poster Prototype

Adopting Senior Dogs
Project Statement
This project entailed creating a public service announcement poster revolving around an issue. The objective of this project is to research a topic and create a visual and meaningful message through a poster and four types of advertisements.

The subject that Hailey opted to research is the issue revolving around the low adoption rates of senior dogs. Research on this subject shows senior dogs are left behind at shelters compared to younger dogs. After thoroughly researching the subject, Hailey decides to give her poster a prison theme, with a dark/neutral color scheme and emphasize the issue surrounding senior dogs.

Hailey illustrates the image of each dog on each poster using Procreate. Each dog behind bars in both posters demonstrates the prison theme and represents senior dogs left behind at animal shelters. Neutral and darker colors evoke emotion within the viewer to take action. Darker colors are associated with sadness. Along with darker colors, the dogs look distraught, as the poster represents them stuck in shelters with no home. The bars are CMYK Gray, while the background is CMYK dark blue-gray.

The font for the header and the call to action is Octin Prison. The typeface is average weight and is considered a serif font. Hailey chose this font to give the poster the feel of a prison. The font used for the fact and the website is Gill Sans MT, a sans serif font, and the weight of the text is bold. This font ensures that the smaller text is legible to read. This simpler font avoids taking attention away from the heading. The type size varies to establish hierarchy between the header, call to action, statistical fact, and website link.

The heading and call to action are both CMYK white and CMYK gold. The gold helps words stand out in the poster. The variation in the size of the text establishes hierarchy and makes the poster visually attractive.

The statistical fact and website link are both CMYK white, with the number CMYK dark green on the first poster and CMYK light pink on the second poster. A different color is used for the number in the facts to establish contrast and draw attention to the statistical number. Most of the text is CMYK white to contrast with the darker background.

This poster uses a prison theme and a dark color scheme to evoke emotion within the viewers to encourage them to take action.
