96 Layers
A Solid, Void and Path Study
The excavation of a solid result in voids. It is the direction and trajectory of the excavation that yields interesting results that imprint information about its origins. Ultimately, what results is a solid that is given new meaning by the introduction of a path and direction of a subtracting force. This form was determined by the analytical approach of considering a three-dimensional path cut through 96 layers of 4-ply museum board. What emerges is an animated 8”x4”x6” model that emphasizes movement in three dimensional space.

From a void to a solid state, the relationship is reversed. The concept of the solid (right), stems from and emphasizes the idea that there exists a source of origin of this animation. A mold that capitalizes on this concept was made where liq
