В Лабораторию дизайна обратилась команда проекта Высшей школы экономики «Открываем Россию заново» (при поддержке президентской платформы «Россия — страна возможностей» и программы «Больше, чем путешествие») с просьбой подготовить дизайн-макет годового отчёта проекта по итогам сезона-2022. Отчёт предполагалось выпустить в формате книги-сборника, в которой должны быть собраны ключевые результаты работы, география путешествий, планы по развитию проекта и многое другое.

Созданный Лабораторией дизайна концепт дизайн-макета годового отчёта призван передать как эмоциональную атмосферу экспедиций, которая считывалась с фотоматериалов, предоставленных командой-заказчиком, так и важность самого проекта «Открываем Россию заново». Решение применить скетчевый стиль в иллюстрациях основывается на аналогии с зарисовками на полях, практикуемыми в экспедиционных полевых журналах.
