Emma Boutet's profile

Dance Artist Showreel: Performance & Public(s)

I believe in, and work towards, the social function of dance art as an active and accessible form of change-making and cultural democracy - through inclusive, improvisational approaches that seek to invite and empower diverse individuals and communities. My artistic practice explores how affective dance-based contemporary art in the public sphere can be a catalyst for personal and social transformation; possibilities and potential of somatic and socially engaged methodologies; and evolving roles of artist-as-producer, instigator and facilitator. My academic practice-as-research delves into the immediate and long-term impact of artistically engaging with audiences; autoethnography as a lens into individual and collective experience; relationships between artists, public(s) and institutions; blurring disciplinary and (in)visible boundaries. I am motivated by collaborations that are greater than the sum of their parts; unexpected encounters, interruptions and interventions in the public realm; and the process of finding meaningful ways of transcending barriers to transformative experiences.
