Behind The Project

We have lost count of all the plastic bags we have ever used—and thrown into our trash cans. Despite its handiness, discarded plastic bag is actually very dangerous to the environment.

 

This fact has challenged OJA to develop a campaign idea:  not to bury it or refuse its usage, but to process it the simplest way to be reused in the form of stylish, wearable item. (www.ojamantra.blogspot.com)

 

I call it: “FIGHT PLASTIC WITH PLASTIC.”

 

MANHATTAAN

Who doesn't know Piet Mondriaan? As one of the De Stijl pioneers, this Dutch artist had contributed in the development of modern art—particularly the minimalism style. Based on that style, OJA tries to explore the advantages of plastic bag as a material with Mondriaan ‘rules’: abstract shapes and simple, clean colors. The title of this fresh, colorful collection is Manhattaan.

 

Unique color compositions and playful vertical and horizontal strokes are the strong points of this 16 cm x 30 cm clutch bag. Yes, Manhttaan utilizes discarded (colorful) plastic bags as its basic material. For the lining, OJA chooses fabrics with geometrical and abstract patterns such as polka dot, houndstooth, and other adorable motifs.

What makes it more special, all of the Manhattaan clutch bags are unique. No two are the same because the plastic motif for each clutch bag is specially designed and done by hand. That’s why, just like a painting, every piece in Manhattaan collection is highly exclusive.
