After a trip to Gion, where girls study to become Geisha, I became obbsessed with the delicate hair flowers that they wore.
These are made using silks and cottons, held together in the traditional way with rice glue. They are set onto rather non-traditional pins I made myself by embedding the end of the hair pins into a poured resin shape.
The beaded parts are a sylyized version of the 'bira bira', the metal parts of the kanzashi that dangle together to make sound in the hairpiece.
