This is an ongoing series of photographs begun over twenty years ago. Inspired by the Japanese philosophy of Zen, these photographs represents moments of meditation and tranquillity that I have experienced in a variety of locations around the world. They represent scenes and objects that have spoken to me as I explored the environments in which I have found myself. In an often bewilderingly complex and chaotic world, these images are an extraction, a simplification. In this sense I view them as visual haiku; the world distilled down to its pure essence. Ephemeral moments of perfection that will never exist again. They trigger memories and dreams and invite me to focus my attention, once again, on that which is simple and beautiful.
