INDIGENOUS HABITAT - Vestiges of ancestral life in India's Northeast.
Illustrations . Sketches

An ambitious project by an architect and photographer to document and present indigenous houses and buildings in the North Eastern states of India.

As an illustrator, I had to create images of houses which did not exist in their entirety, with significant alterations that were made to the structure. Working closely with sketches, photos as guidance from the architect to create and bring to life these intricate and beautiful structures.

The Phrielsila Nongsteng house, a combination of subtleties is designed to effectively withstand all the vagaries of the local climate : summer sultriness, winter chill, high winds and unremitting monsoon rain.
The Nabachandra house (Chakpa Huitha Yum), Tripura.

The Chakpa Huitha Yum, the ancestral home of Nabachandra and wife Keinatombi is about eighty years old.It remains more or less as originally built, in the purest Andro tradition.
The Sidon Khongsar House, Meghalaya.

The original house was made "before the big earthquake of 1897".
The Poi facade, Manipur.
This project put me through my paces. I am proud to have been a part of this gravely necessary and enlightening book and am quite pleased with now my illustrations in the book have worked cohesively and aesthetically.
