Athazagoraphobia is the fear of being forgotten. This piece belongs to a larger series of photographs entitled "Phobias." In 2021, Athazagoraphobia received a Regional Silver Key from the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.
To create this piece, I set my Canon EOS 50D on a tripod and captured my portrait using a self-timer. I wanted to express being forgotten by visually representing being "erased" from history or time. In Adobe Photoshop, I edited the portrait with a "sketch" effect and used the smudge and masking tool to erase the appropriate areas. Behind the subject, I used a picture from a blank page in my sketchbook to be the paper background and blended the layers to make the sketch appear on the page. I printed this image out and sprinkled eraser bits over the top to emphasize the erased effect and photographed the final image.
