What started as an experimentation project with The Hipstamatic 367 digital camera app ended up being a mini Fine Art photo project focusing on the Urban Landscape at night. The Hipstamatic is a film camera simulation app that has different interchangeable film and lens combinations to choose from. The camera app helped give the images thier unique look with characteristics such as: happy accidents, interesting color effects, and the feel, look and nostalgia of film photography with it’s grain, grittines, and a sense of mystery and unpredictability, especially in low light conditions. Louis, my dog become part of a supporting cast of subjects too. Poles and Holes refer to two main subjects. First, the main source of light used came from "poles" of light and second the dark cavernous low key areas refer to holes or dark spaces with contrasting detail. The why comes down to simple play with form and composition and on a more deeper why, because urban landscape has always been one of my favorite genres, one spawned as a youth exploring the neighborhood with my Pentax MESuper 35mm SLR, usually with Ektachrome in it.
