'The Magical Spying Glass' - Voyage of Sir Joseph Banks

Created for Horncastle Enchanted Town in 2013, this piece returned this year by popular demand.
This piece uses the Banks Centre in Horncastle as its canvass.
The building is named after naturalist and botanist Sir Joseph Banks, born in Lincolnshire, who accompanied Captain James Cook’s first great voyage to the Southern Seas (1768-1771).  Banks is an important figure in the field of Botany and he was knighted for his work. This is the subject of the satirical James Gilray cartoon of the ordinary man transformed like a caterpillar into a butterfly.
