Collector's Corn Hole Board
Bottle Cap Collection Beginnings
I have been collecting beer bottle caps since 2011 when my family took a trip to Brazil. While we were there we were invited to go to a lot of different restaurants. As an 11 year old american I would get tired of being on "Brazilian time" and having nothing to do but sit and talk to the adults. I would go and walk around outside the restaurants, and there were always bottle caps strewn everywhere. I was so fascinated by them because of their unique color and patterns. i started picking them up and placing them in my pockets to bring home to our apartment and clean everyday. I would get bolder too and ask the restaurant employees if they had any that they hadn't thrown away. Eventually, as the years passed by I stopped actively collecting them, but I ended up with the over 2000 that I currently own now.
Project Inspiration
My idea for this project stemmed from my desire to display these bottle caps in some sort of way in my future home. I would search online for artwork, furniture, display cases, or sculptures made from or with bottle caps. I could never find anything that I was interested in since all the options that I had looked up turned out pretty tacky and would be something more likely found in a bar than in a home. Because of this I have kinda forgotten about the collection for a while, until I came across the corn hole board idea. This was something that I was going to be able to use for the rest of my life, and since it is a game, which would not be a center piece in my, but could be a fun talking point for when I host outdoor parties.
Board Design
In the future, I would want to add resin to the board in order to attach the bottle caps in a way that would not interfere with the game playability. I will also build another one where I can place all the non colorful bottle caps that I own on, which would create two different designs of semi randomly placed caps. One which is colorful, and the other which has more neutral colors.
Design Process
The design of this board was pretty simple. I made them regulation which is 2'x4' with 6" diameter hole in the board 6" from the top. I made the legs to where the back of the board is 12" off the ground. I added a support for the eventual weight stemming from the resin added to the top.
