Park Here / Typography Workshop

Park here
An interactive typographic installation

Handmade Type - this workshop was in collaboration with IDC, IIT Bombain 2013  Moving the typography class outdoors,
the idea was to create a typographic installation that was open for people to physically interact with. As a part of this
exploration, the students from Visual Communication had to respond creatively to the phrase 'Park Here' and
recreate it in any open space. After spending a few hours around campus trying to find a suitable spot, and the
right building blocks for the typeface, this is what the students came up with.

They used objects and surfaces that people could sit, sleep or 'park' themselves upon, to create the phrase.
The elements chosen to create the typography had to reinforce the message. And the space they chose to stage
the installation also had to align to the core idea. We captured the entire process as a video and through images
which were then shared onto the e-resource tool - D'Source.

The making of the installation
Debating on what the phrase means, its possible interpretations and figuring out what elements could be used to create it.
A quick discussion between the team before bringing in all the materials.
Arranging the materials to begin forming the word.
Interesting visitors pay us a visit in the afternoon.
The completed typographical installation, and people 'parking themselves' onto it to enjoy some chai - biscuit over a conversation.
