DOCUMENTARY | The Unbearable Dreamworld (Miền Du Miên)

THE UNBEARABLE DREAMWORLD follows Mr. Jaka in his journey of trying to preserve the Cham culture. Jaka (38) is a contemporary dancer, a young Vietnamese intellectual of Cham origin, growing up in a famous intellectual family in Saigon and particularly, in the Cham community. At the age of 30, Jaka took off his usual Kinh clothes and put on his people's traditional clothes, he decided to return to live in his Cham village in Thap Cham, Ninh Thuan. Freedom, restraint, old and new, are the film's touch points when standing at the thin line within cultures and families. From here, family and value system conflicts, and questions about national identity are gradually revealed.

Under the pressure of money, Jaka must make a choice: will he accept compromises to fulfill his family responsibilities, or will he continue aggressively with his dream of preserving the Cham culture?

THE UNBEARABLE DREAMWORLD is currently in the early stages of production, and was filmed mainly in Ninh Thuan and Saigon, where the characters live and work.
