Crossfit Hayate - Nagoya/Japan

T-shirt design for a Crossfit box located in the city of Nagoya in Japan.

They came up with some ideas, basically what they wanted people to identify themselves with, so the key words “strength” and “determination” were brought to our discussion. They saw some of my original illustrations and wanted something with the same style, so in the end we decided to use a very popular character from Japanese folklore, Kintaro, the golden boy.

In the stories he’s always depicted showing how strong he is battling giant animals, the most common being bears and koi fish. But as the box is located in the city of Nagoya, we decided to use the city’s mascot, some kind of tiger fish, but decided to keep the tiger head and just attached it to a koi fish body.
