Balance is when in a image it seems equally balanced in the sense of weight.
When emphasis is shown in an image helps draw attention to a specific area/thing in an area. Emphasis can highlight the specific thing and help give it more meaning compared to the other parts of the image that aren't that significant.
3D form is the way we see 3 Dimensional objects in a picture. 3D form can be solid shapes that are seen as 3D such as prisms, cylinders, cubes, spheres and pyramids. These shapes can add depth to an image and also create an important structure to an image to create a organised feeling.
Value is the the contrast between the brightness and darkness of a specific colour. Colours can be set on a value spectrum where black is the darkest value and white is the lightess value. Value when shown in an image can be represented through a gradient in shades/colours. This can create the effect to the viewer that something is emphasised or has intended value presented by the author.
Pattern is when a design such as colours, shapes and lines are repeated. Patterns can be arranged in various styles ranging from straight lines to complex shaped patterns. Patterns in a image can create depth in a image and also create a weird sort of unique feeling.
Movement is when something moves or changes in direction. Movement can range from walking to running. In a image movement can create a sort of real life effect to the image, sort of like giving you perspective to the image in a real world point of view. Movement also can create shape in a image which gives structure to an image.
Variety is when an array of design elements are utilised to create a emphasis on a specific thing/ giving something meaning. For example, you go to a musuem and you see an abstract artwork that has a range of elements such as different colours, shape, 3D form etc. In your mind when you think about the artwork you would see it as a intentionally complex piece. Variety creates complexity to images.
Space is the vast area around a certain thing. This can be the background of an image/ exterior parts of an image that aren't seen as significant. Space can create dimensions to an image which can help frame the image in a way that is intended to. Space can create emphasis and meaning to a specific thing and also can lessen meaning to other specific things.
A shape is an enclosed 2D line that closes a specific area. Inan image there are many different type of shapes like triangles, squares, circles etc. With these shape they help create structure for the image and dimension.
Colour is the way to describe a object to create a visual idea in your head. E.g. Orange, blue, red etc. Colours can help display different meanings in your mind. E.g. Yellow can display happiness or red can show anger in a image. Colour is also playful, so it can create a sort of youthful effect to an image which can overall help target the image to a specific audience.

Repetition is when something is done more then once. When repetition is utilised it can be give a specific thing more meaning/ importance. When things also are repeated it generally helps stick a specific thing in the viewers' mind which can help give the image significance. When used in an image it can also give it movement.
Typography is visual texts on a image to display a specific feeling or method. Typography can be shown in various ways such as different fonts ranging from big and bold to small tiny fonts. Typography in an image can help display a certain idea. When used in a image it draws the viewers' attention to the text and gives it the importance the author of the image had intended for to give.
Texture is the way a specific surface of an object feels/ looks. E.g. The surface of a brick has a rough texture. Texture can be complex as it how we humans perceive how a certain thing can look and feel. When texture is used it can give the image a specific real life look. Texture can range from rough, smooth, rubbery, wet etc.
A dot to dot puzzle can be used as a metaphor for the line visual element. A line in a photo can help pinpoint your eyes to important places in a photo. A line can create depth, structure and a point of view to an image.
Contrast is the juxtaposition between two or more things. Contrast can be used to depict two different meanings in an image. For example, a computer is photographed and is edited in black and white which is a contrast in day of age as a computer can symbolise the modern age whereas the black and white can represent the olden times.
Harmony is the idea that everything in an image works together.
Unity in a photo all parts of the photo work together to create one whole meaning in a picture.

Volume is the amount of space that a object take up. Volume also is the 3D form that a specific object is in. In an image volume can create depth and form a different perspective to a viewer.
