AP Exam Prep Website - Creating a Design System

Designing a Self-Study Website for AP Exam Prep in Biology and Chemistry

In this project, we developed a design system for a self-study website catering to high school students preparing for AP Biology and Chemistry exams. The project followed a step-by-step design process:
Step 1: Research and Analysis
We conducted user research, studying students' needs and preferences while also analyzing competitors in the educational space.
Value Propositions
Based on user needs and existing solutions in the market, value propositions were finalized to draw users.
Step 2: Objectives and Goals
Clear objectives were set, focusing on an
1. Intuitive User friendly interface
2. Video-based learning
3. Progress tracking
4. Realistic exam simulations.
Step 3: Information Architecture
We created a logical sitemap and wire-frames to structure the website effectively. We introduced a 'Demo Flow' for users to take a trial of the product before buying a subscription.
Step 4: Visual Design
A cohesive brand identity, color palette, typography, and UI components were established for an engaging yet accessible design.
Step 5: UI Component Library
A library of reusable UI elements was developed for consistency and ease of maintenance.
Step 6: Responsive Design
The platform was optimised for desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
Step 7: Video Integration
High-quality video content was seamlessly integrated into the lessons with custom video player controls.
Step 8: Exam Simulation
Realistic exam interfaces, timers, and scoring mechanisms were designed to mimic AP exams.
Step 9: User Testing
Extensive testing with diverse student groups helped refine the user experience.
Step 10: Documentation
Detailed guidelines and documentation were created to facilitate development and future maintenance.
