Experimenting with materials and techniques

Make Your Mark:

This activity involved experimenting with a range of mediums and patterns to in order compare them. In doing this, I was able to consider the possible applications of different mediums depending on the outcome I want. To experiment, I used (in order from top to bottom):
6b Pencil
Blue colored pencil
4.0 Fineliner
Copic Marker
Water Colour
Acrylic Paint
Combining Line and Shape Drawing:

To create Images 2-4, I decided to draw a backpack, a plant cutting in a jar, and a wallet. Image 2 depicts my interpretation of them through line drawings; Image 3 depicts the form of the  objects without the contour; and Image 4 combines the 2 aspects.

I quite enjoyed this process- I liked seeing how separately and combined, each of the depictions had different character. Personally, I prefer the combined version as I enjoy the texture of the watercolor, combined with the whimsy of my contour drawing style.
Drawing Negative Space:

For this project, I chose a reference image of my partner from a while back when we were browsing an antique store. This process involved separating the foreground from the background in order to depict the negative space in which detail was later added.

I found this process quite interesting, as it encouraged us to think- this process is usually done in reverse.
