Awarded: Finalist
Competition design for a Visitors Center in Newark, NJ. The design is based upon a continuous and infinitely looping path that weaves itself in space. Its sudden, changing trajectory creates regions of programmatic variance and spatial differentiation whilst connecting the all areas along its route into a visual, perceptible whole. At times, the path delineates and directs movement, then turns to envelopes space, oscillating between interior and exterior and across levels.

The scheme restricts vehicular movement to the western boundary and directs parking into an open-aired sunken level, leaving the ground level to be vehicle-free. Pedestrian walkways bridge across from Raymond Boulevard to the newly landscaped Jersey Street to the north. The landscaping continues through, and connects patrons to the proposed river walk, A new public space is created between the river walk and the centre - a transitional space.
