Water Garden Reden, Saarland, Germany (Vista)

The former switchyard of the old “Grube Reden” mine will be transformed into a 750-meter long water garden. The basins cover the highly polluted ground and collect the rainwater of the entire campus. Various ecosystems are planned for the the garden. The design includes low-dynamic rainwater basins and fluctuating peak storage basins. In addition, a part of the garden is supplied with warm mine water from the geothermal power plant. The garden features two squares, several play areas and a 50-meter long canyon. Wide footpaths run in between the basins. A 9-meter high gabion wall forms the transition between the water garden and the campus.
