I find texture and beauty in so many things and I don’t think I can feel truly happy in a completely blank space.
That said, my inspiration often hits me at random moments and the vision is often very specific.
This series of prints is one of those.
I took a selfie of my printed dress with some beautifully retro Panettone packaging while I was, as we Aussies say so eloquently, “preggo” with my first child in 2019. The combination reignited my nostalgic love for Italian deli goods and their gorgeous packaging and the “Prego” idea has been rattling around my head trying to get out ever since.

Although sadly I’m not Italian, I grew up in the area known as Sydney’s Little Italy. I worked as a cashier for a dubious Italian restaurant where the Sicilian kitchen hands wooed me in Italian and the sleazy old providor would ask when I was coming to Majorca with him. My family frequented the local delis, and institutions such as Cafe Sport and Bar Italia. So much so, that my dad used to call it “The Office”. We were gifted 3 litres of gelato for Christmas one year and I can safely say my body is at least two thirds pasta and one fifth sfogliatele.

“Prego” means "you’re welcome" which felt appropriate for the little bun in my oven at the time and that’s when I drew the motifs. More babies and life have got in the way of getting them to full realisation until now.

So with a modern twist, this is my homage to those beautiful nostalgic visuals.
