Occasionally our church newspaper has some blank spaces that need filler content. As the resident cartoonist on staff I'll be asked to make something involving Wesley the bulldog (our church mascot). For this comic, I was asked to make something with 6 panels having to do with summer. The result is less of a traditional comic and more of a series of illustrations, but it was enjoyed a lot by the rest of the staff. Each letter represents an activity / item associated with summer:

Swimming
Umbrellas
Movies
Mangos
Exercise
Relaxation
Originally this was supposed to be two comics- one for Valentines Day and one for the Super Bowel, but we had to divert our attention to more important church projects and two filler comics got axed to just one instead. I was inspired to try to combine the two themes though and I think the final result is better for it.
This was a belated valentine comic I had made the year prior, and is also the only design I tried making a colored background for behind the panels. It ended up very eye-catching, but I felt that making the background different than the rest of the newspaper separated it too much and made it look tacky among the rest of the paper's contents. I still enjoy it though and liked how Wesley became the scapegoat for our delayed message.
