Trafaria Waterfront: Landscape Design

Trafaria Waterfront

The Trafaria Waterfront Urban Design Project proposes the rehabilitation of the coastal pathway in the Portuguese city of Trafaria. The current waterfront by the Tagus River hosts a narrow promenade where tables from the local shops take most of the space. The proposal organizes the pathway for an improvement in the flow of people.

The Trafaria Watefront is expanded and assigns specific roles for the designated areas, thus getting the user closer to the water. The project consists of three levels: street promenade, recreational islands and beach promenade.

The street promenade is a few steps higher than the beach promenade. The last one brings the users by the sand, while the street promenade is closer to the shops and houses. They are separated by the recreational islands that will host areas for sitting by the palm trees. The two promenades connect through steps and ramps that will take the users for a walk along the beach.
