“Tugce Yakar” is a sculptor and illustrator based in Izmir, Turkey. She is also one of the employees of "Nesin Maths Village". Nesin Maths Village is, in reality, three villages merged into one: the Maths Village, the Arts Village and the Philosophy Village were founded in 2007 in Sirince, Izmir, Turkey. One who visits the village can see her at the market -bakkal in Turkish- of the village.

Besides, this photo series aims to roughly demonstrate to the audience "nothing is how it is seen indeed". The Gillian Wearing project, named “Signs that Say What You Want Them To Say and Not Signs that Say What Someone Else Wants You To Say” is a valuable example of what is wanted to say. Thus, it is one of the main inspirations. She asked a broad cross-section of people in Britain through statements such as ‘Will Britain get through this recession?’ in the early 1990s, which refers to the economic decline era in Britain. Among the group is one of Wearing’s best-known images which depicts a smartly dressed young man with a mild, even complacent, expression holding a sign saying simply, ‘I’m desperate’. In a 1996 interview Wearing described how ‘People are still surprised that someone in a suit could actually admit to anything’ with the photograph. In fact, this expression describes the similarities between this project and Wearing's. For instance, it might be a very surprising fact that Tugce is a sculptor to people who only see her at the market. Therefore, this project tries to remind people to break down their prejudices and think that "they can be more than they are seen".

It is a deep honour to visit her studio and see her works. Thank you Tugce for accepting me to your studio...
