DREAMING IN ACTUALITY

For this project I bring to life a hypothetical capsule collection for Gucci. Learning how to design for a brand in the spirit of the current zeitgeist, my collection Dreaming in Actuality is inspired by the current theme of escapism. Finding parallels between dreaming and escaping, the surrealist movement in the 1920s and today's recession, I combine this Gucci's brand DNA as a design starting point. My designs are inspired by the contrast between functionality in medical and military world with the obsolescence of an escape.

I had a special focus on knitwear, for which I programmed my own Faire-Isle pattern to be used in the industrial machines. A soft fluffy yarn inspired by Ghillie camouflage suits is used to emphasise the comfort that an escape provides.
As print and logo mania is a key component of the Gucci brand DNA, it was still important to me to have my own design implemented. I thus use horse bits to recreate the famous Gucci diamond logo as another element of surrealism, due to the brand's associations with equestrians despite having no "real" roots in the world of horses.
Here I create a digitalised version of my hospital gown-inspired dress. Creating the texture maps myself on CLO3D.
