The site given is located at Marina Island, Lumut, Perak. The location is an ideal area as it is near the Marina Island Jetty and the Marina Island Yacht Club. It is easily accessible as the main road is just in front of the site. The proposed building is a Vertical Housing with ‘work from home’ in mind. It deals with the housing of M40 that emphasizes on the importance of the Perak’s local identity, mix of culture and heritage. M40 refers to a group with households earning between RM3,965 to RM6,732. People on this group area facing difficulties to own an “affordable and comfortable” living unit, especially, in the urban areas where many of them are working. Tackling the issue of the lack of space to do work from home that are currently faced by many vertical housing nowadays.
The concept of the design is taken from what is located in front of the site which is the Yacht club, which is the ‘Streamline’. Marina Island is basically an island that is known for tourist and the yacht club. The sea is closely connected with the site thus inspirations are taken from the shape and form of the yacht. The oval shape of the yacht as viewed from the plan, is taken and repeated to form this streamline curvy shaped similar to the double helix shape.
