Commercial Colour Project

Commercial Colour Project - Second Year Design Project at QUT
This second-year project built upon my studies in Colour and Light Theory and applied my newly acquired knowledge to a hypothetical commercial Interior Design Scenario. This project demonstrates my knowledge of colour theory and how this can be manipulated to create an intentional Interior Atmosphere that supports a brand identity and encourages commercial purchasing behaviours.

This project tasked me to develop an interior colour scheme for a commercial retail space for a hypothetical client which I was to conceptualise. My colour scheme was to be inspired by the use of colour of an artist of my choice, J.M.W Turner. I was to analyse their use of colour to create atmosphere using a critical colour theory lens. From this, I developed my own colour scheme, using different contrasts to emphasise the products on sale as well as the interior branding. I sourced real-world Interior finishes so that this project could be brought to life, and these are presented in a digital finishes board. To present this proposed colour scheme, I curated a set of conceptual drawings featuring overall plans, elevations and perspectives as well as detail elevations of the bespoke display units.

This project tasked me to develop my own hypothetical Skincare brand, using my knowledge of colour theory to design a company logo and packaging for their products. Despite not being a primary focus of this project, I particularly enjoyed using my creativity to develop a lifelike brand name, identity and logo.

During this project, I used a hybrid approach to the presenting, with hand drawings coupled with digital renderings, compiled in a digital format. The final project layout was created using Adobe InDesign with renderings created using Adobe Photoshop.
