Separation pannel made with natural materials

Flaxible is a project of a separator for office space, made using the method of hardening flax with an organic methylcellulose binder. The priority in our project was to create a product that would be fully recyclable or compostable. Thanks to the use of methylcellulose, the flax portion of the panel can be cut and disposed of in compost for utilization. The steel parts, on the other hand, can be successfully melted down and reused.

An additional advantage, not only in office spaces, is allowing users to integrate with nature. The panel's design enables easy installation of semi-hydroponic cultivation pots. Why semi-hydroponic? We are aware that plants require additional care and responsibility, but this method allows you to enjoy the surrounding greenery with ease of maintenance.

Parallel to designing a product using hardened flax, we conducted experiments with plant roots, analyzing their structure, durability, and other properties. The photos show examples of plant root systems such as oats, rosemary, chives, and grass. Besides their visual value in the form of beautiful shapes, they also possess insulating and sound-dampening properties. We see great potential in utilizing them in Flaxible as a filling material inside the panel, thereby enhancing its acoustic characteristics.

Considering that we are designing for office spaces, we couldn't overlook the aspect of organization. To enhance tidiness and accessibility to essential tools, we decided to expand the panel's functionality by incorporating mentioned organizational features. These include organizers for office supplies and a notepad board, which can be mounted on the flax separator in the same way as the plant pots. As for the base, two variations were designed for the same reasons, allowing the panel to be customized for spaces with different requirements. The low base is perfect for separating desks, providing additional legroom, while the larger base with a stone insert can be used to create a general separation between office segments and shared areas.
