Working with Auckland Hospital's Adult Emergency Department (AED), my partner at the DHW Lab and I have developed a clear and simple journey map, demonstrating the various care pathways patients experience during their time in AED. The visual map shows the four main phases of any journey through a series of simply styled icons and short text to better communicate the Emergency Department process to patients and their families. This will ultimately provide patients and families a clearer, more transparent understanding of their course of care, and the operations of the department. The outcome of this project will be a series of both print and digital communications through brochures and TV displays in waiting areas, as well as wall mounted signage throughout the department.
