Road Trip for Joe Ledbetter

Road Trip Statue for Joe Ledbetter
After a successful project with Joe Ledbetter called Wolfgang - itself a fairly complex resin statue - Joe came back to use to challenge us with an even bigger and more complex concept: Road Trip! This is a multi-part sculpture featuring several of Joe's animal characters stacked high atop a Vespa scooter, held together with magnets.
About Road Trip, Joe writes:

This is not a Toy. A sculpture, an art object, a statue; that’s more like it. This figure has a presence- it’s large, heavy and solid resin. It contains magnets, steel rods and felt pads. How nice it is to switch things up and work in different materials from time to time. Resin offers many different possibilities without too many compromises. In this case, it allowed me to go tall (over 16″).

The idea of several large characters crowding together on a small scooter is
something that has been percolating for many years before this project started.
Once I got underway, sculptor Dave Bondi and I spent several years working
together to fine-tune this sculpture. Dave had some brilliant ways of hiding seam
lines and fitting pieces together in invisible ways (look at the seam connecting
the elephant’s face and trunk, for example). We also included scribe lines to the sculpt to give the black linework added dimension.

On the production side, Bigshot Toyworks did an incredible job managing this
complex figure. With Road Trip they have produced a statue of the highest
quality, as beautiful as can be, arriving safe and sound despite many challenges
along the way. Nobody does it better. I hope you enjoy Road Trip, I really went for it, pulled out all the stops and am pleased as punch! Now it’s up to you to decide where these travellers came from and where they’re headed. See ya down the road!

To facilitate fulfillment, we had the factory pack each unit of Joe's Road Trip sculpture into a shipped box with foam corners to ensure that his final step - delivery to his customers - was as easy as placing one label onto one box. We love doing this for the high end, larger products we produce for artists and smaller companies - making the fulfillment easier is a small thing we can do during the process that makes things infinitely easier for our clients.
