Gravestone Type - Mary Hare Font

Mary Hare Font
This is a font inspired by a slate gravestone dating from 1688. I have tried to retain as many of the characteristics of the lettering as possible. The font features a large x height with short ascenders and descenders and scalloped serifs. Also included are some special glyphs that are no longer commonly used. The font also features a set of non-aligning numerals that are in keeping with the style of this period.
The word 'Esquire', as featured on the original 17th Century gravestone.
This glyph represents the 'quire', sound in the esquire word on the gravestone. It originates from greek lettering.

Mary Hare ligature featuring 'ct'.
This image features the word 'esquire' engraved into granite using the Mary Hare font. The long 's' is used and the greek '3' represents the 'uire' sound of the word.
Wording from the gravestone, reproduced in Mary Hare Font. This includes the 'esq' symbol and the use of the long 's', as well as various ligatures and the 'ye', glyph which represents the word 'the', pronounced 'ee'.
