Here’s the latest ‘Artists Desk’ illustration!
This time I asked the amazingly colourful @sebacuri & @macarenaluzi

After discovering the bright and beautiful studio space he and his wife have created (which they upload regularly to their social media) I knew I wanted to draw it and ask some questions to find out more!
You can read their answers below.

Thank you again Seb & Macarena!

1. What was your goal when setting up your studio space? (or is it a random outcome built up over years?)
I think the studio kind of grew with time. First it was an attic close to our home because Macarena was doing handtufting and we needed the space. Later on I started doing silkscreen and we couldn't store them properly in the space we had. And when we started drawing in big format and the paintings and rugs got bigger than 2-3 meters, we realized we needed a bigger studio. The work changed with the studio and the studio has been changing with the work in a ping-pong dynamic that has been happening for the last 3 years. We both feel this is going to continue so the studios are going to keep changing to try to follow the work needs.

2. How long did it take until you were happy with it?
Almost no time. We loved the first one and it was basically an attic with a window and a big concrete patio. We put some plants and our two desks and we were already happy. Even before that, where we were sharing a small room at our home where if I extended my arm I would touch Macarena on the other corner of our very small room. She had a sewing machine and I had my computer. Of course the actual studio is amazing but we are happy just by being together and the space is secondary.

3. What is one thing you would change or want to add?
Seb: I want more space for paintings, more space for storage of bigger prints and I dream with more space for sculptures. I’ve been thinking about how I can make my hand drawings into sculptures and I’m sure that is something I’m going to be working on over the next few years.
Macarena: I’d absolutely love to have a small outdoor space or patio in our studio. A place to have big plants, where we could take a break and drink a cup of coffee and chill for a bit.
