The Castle of Vaux-le-Vicomte was built in the 17th century by Nicolas Fouquet, superintendent of finances to King Louis XIV, the equivalent of his Minister of Finance. He called upon the greatest artists of his time: the architect Louis Le Vau, the decorator Charles Le Brun and the gardener André Le Nôtre. The king will call on the same team to build the Palace of Versailles and its gardens. Fouquet's ambition will scare the king and especially Colbert who dreams of taking his place. They foment a plot to arrest Fouquet, through d'Artagnan, and condemn him to life imprisonment. He will be one of the characters who populate Alexandre Dumas' novel: "the Viscount of Bragelonne".
Le Chateau de Vaux-le-Vicomte fut construit au 17è siècle par Nicolas Fouquet, surintendant des finances du roi Louis XIV, l'équivalent de son Ministre des Finances. Il fit appel aux plus grands artistes de son temps : l'architecte Louis Le Vau, le décorateur Charles Le Brun et le jardinier André Le Nôtre. Le roi fera appel à la même équipe pour le réaliser le Château de Versailles et ses jardins. L'ambition de Fouquet fera peur au roi et surtout à Colbert qui rêve de prendre sa place. Ils fomentent un complot pour faire arrêter Fouquet, par d'Artagnan, et le condamner à la prison à vie. Il fera partie des personnages qui peuplent le roman d'Alexandre Dumas : "le vicomte de Bragelonne".
