I was commissioned by Västkuststiftelsen to create an art installation in one of their nature reserves, aimed at encouraging people to explore the more distant and often overlooked parts of the area. Along with the installation, a new hiking trail was planned to guide visitors throughout the entire reserve. I collaborated with architect Mattias Holmberg on this project, and our concept and ideas were approved by the client. Unfortunately, due to new directives from the government regarding the area, the project was not realized. Despite this setback, I thoroughly enjoyed working on the project and I am proud of the result we achieved.
Vallda Sandö is an incredibly stunning area located on the picturesque west coast of Sweden. The low, smooth cliffs seamlessly merge with the ocean, creating a breathtaking scene. In the heart of the reserve lies a stunning lagoon that receives its fair share of attention, but unfortunately, many people fail to explore the area beyond it. Working alongside Västkuststiftelsen, we have carefully selected the most awe-inspiring location, and we believe that if we can encourage people to make the effort to visit, we will have succeeded.

Despite the area's natural beauty, the location is also exposed to the forces of nature. Even on a calm day, the wind can be tiresome. However, from the top of the cliff, visitors can enjoy breathtaking views in all directions, and any weather condition will only add to the stunning beauty of the landscape.
With this installation, we aimed to achieve four goals that would bring us closer to nature and enhance our appreciation of the natural world. At the heart of our project was the desire to fulfill Västkuststiftelsen's main mission of inspiring more people to explore the beauty of the natural world.

1: Our first goal was to awaken a greater awareness of our surroundings and forge a stronger connection to nature. We believe that by immersing ourselves in the beauty of the natural world, we can rediscover our place in it and foster a deeper understanding of the natural environment that surrounds us.

2: Secondly, we sought to create a solitary structure that would stand in strong contrast to nature. Rather than hiding it away, we aimed to ignite curiosity and encourage exploration. By venturing out and discovering the installation, visitors would be rewarded with a unique and unexpected experience.

3: Our third goal was to present nature in a new light through the interaction between humans and the natural world. In a space with expansive, unbroken views, we sought to create something new by constraining and cutting off certain perspectives, allowing us to focus on the beauty and wonder of the natural world from a fresh and unique perspective.

4: Finally, we aimed to create a small journey within the installation, a bridge between individuals and the immense power of nature. By stepping into the installation, we hoped that visitors would be able to experience the wonder and majesty of nature in a more profound and personal way, forging a deeper connection between themselves and the natural world.
At the heart of our art installation was the idea of creating a collision between humanity and nature, fusing the two together in a way that would be both harmonious and dynamic. Our aim was to capture the shifting moods and colors of the natural world, allowing each visitor to experience something unique and memorable.

To achieve this, we sought to frame nature in a completely new and unexpected way. Inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's Vetruvian man, we aimed to combine the human form with the beauty of nature, creating a visual representation of the connection between humanity and the natural world.
Our inspiration for the art installation was Leonardo da Vinci's iconic Vitruvian Man. In this masterful work, da Vinci depicted the ultimate human proportions, capturing the perfect balance and harmony of the human form.

While the Vitruvian Man has a ratio of 2:8, we recognized that this was not representative of the average human form. Instead, we settled on a ratio of 2:7, allowing us to create a canvas that would showcase the raw, unbridled beauty of nature in perfect harmony with the human form.

Our aim was to use this ratio as a starting point for creating a visual representation of the connection between humanity and the natural world. By framing the natural world in this way, we hoped to inspire visitors to pause and reflect on the beauty and wonder of the world around us, forging a deeper connection between ourselves and the natural world.
