The Society of Graphic Designers of Canada (GDC) is a member-based organization of design professionals, educators, administrators, students and associates in communications, marketing, media, and design-related fields. As Canada’s only nation-wide body of designers responsible for promoting high standards of visual design and ethical business practices for the benefit of the profession, it is very important for the GDC to send a strong message to its members on the topic of sustainability and design.

The 2010 annual report is the chosen medium to relay that message. Printed entirely on discarded make-readies from the printer’s past jobs, the book consists of 22 French-folded signatures which allow readers to see what was on the other side of the pages before they were repurposed. Printed primarily in black and white, the variations in paper stock weight and colour shine through. A hot pink section printed on double-sided make-readies, featuring a glossary of sustainable design terms, drives home the key message of this annual.   www.gdc.net
