The BeveRAGE van was created over the last wee while for my Computer Arts Practice module, as I finish off my 3rd year here at the University of Abertay, Dundee. The basis of the idea came up when I was out with my dad helping him in the van, delivering kegs and cases of all kinds of alcoholic goodies (he works for a local drinks supplier). Just after we finished a massive delivery on a brather hot day, we started to joke around about having a deployable tank turret on the roof of the van, for extra fast keg delivery! Thoom!

 

The brief was to basically create an original design for a Wacky Races style racing vehicle suitable for low poly games. It needed to have a cartoony aesthetic, as I wanted to practice with single image hand-painted textures, and it needed some kind of real world purpose. Not just a racecar with a few guns and a jet engine taped to it, but something that might exist on the streets in a cartoony world.

 

It needed to be silly., Rediculous, Awesome, and to defy Physics.

I used to doodle things like this a lot when I was younger, but recently it's all just, "oh, how does this work, how does this fit in here, this would never fly!".

I can safely say, I've now reached outside of that comfort zone succesfully!
