Springloaded Knee Brace

Our team worked with the medical device company SpringLoaded on a new concept to highlight their novel knee brace technology. The spring loaded knee braces are equipped with a preloaded "knee extension assist" hinge that absorbs energy when you bend your knee, and then returns that energy to assist with leg extension. They are the only braces available designed to reduce pressure throughout the entire knee while powering your leg muscles, relieving pain, and helping you do more than you ever thought possible. Commonly used by people with osteoarthritismeniscus damage and ligament injuries, our tri-compartment offloading braces combine multiple, patented technologies to realign the knee, restore its strength, and reduce pressure in all three of its compartments.
A series of patents assigned to Spring loaded protects the novel technology of the liquid spring. Spring Loaded braces are the only ones on the market designed to reduce pressure throughout the knee while enhancing strength to alleviate pain and improve mobility for people with knee arthritis and sport injuries. Our design team wanted to highlight the technology rather than to hide it. A blue anodized end cap closes off the housing that encases the springs. It draws the eye to the spring pack, without alienating the target user.
3D printed Nylon frame

Since the liquid springs require steel cables to run trough the frame, the frame itself requires complex inner channels in the geometry. Such geometry is hard to injection mold, so the initial brace parts are 3D-printed Nylon. The striped texture is an artifact of the layering caused by the SLS 3D-printers.
The knob at the back can adjust the tension of the springs, based on the user's weight.
