Seeking Amity 取恒

Inspired by the desire to impart values to youths breaking away from the age of adolescence, Seeking Amity 取恒 seeks to connect cultural values of East and West to them through illustrations that resonates the philosophical teachings.

A design research to apply methodologies of existing designers to one’s own, illustrations of this project are inspired by a diverse collection of professionals from varying cultural background and influences of East and West. As presented by German typographer Erik Spikermann and Spanish artist Pablo Picasso, learning from inspirations and producing one’s individual comprehension out of it can often attribute to masterpieces of new visual languages and styles. This notion is further supported by Chinese aesthetics, which emphasises on the spirit resonance – essence of an artist’s personality, seen in creations such as of Chinese painter Shitao’s (石涛).

As such, Seeking Amity presents an exhibition of illustrations created through the interpretations of East and West values respectively as well as those that are shared between the binary. Supporting this exhibition is a catalogue to present the quotes and inspirational sources of illustrators. This is to assist comprehension and provide a memento for the viewers, hopefully inspiring them to create works combined with their own cultures and influences.
