Crescent Moon Plasma Cut Sign
For my CNC Robotics class this semester, I 3D modeled and plasma cut a moon and star standee for my jewelry business, MDI Jewels.
Process-wise, I began by 3D modeling the sign in Fusion 360 and including an SVG file of part of my business logo. I then traced a tool path of each of the pieces before sending it over to the plasma cutter.
Once I cut it out, I used a wire-brush tool to clean off the excess metal and to smooth out its surface before moving onto the cosmetics. To get a nice even white surface, I used a powder-coat gun and laid on two coats, baking them for 30 minutes in between each coat.
Finally, I used a metal bender to bend the standee legs 90 degrees before using pop rivets to attach the legs to the sign itself.
This project taught me a lot about metal working and plasma cutting, and although it's nowhere near perfect, I think it's pretty good for a first try!
