A few months ago, I received a request with a little bit of a twist.
I was given complete freedom on the Rubik Cube commission.
With no direction or requirements, I decided to challenge myself to redefine the Rubikcubism art style and take a step back on my 'normal' approach.
The challenge with Rubik Cube art is detail. As you only have 5 colours to use (I never use green). So I thought it would be a great idea to focus this piece on just detail.
I used the differing pixel method to create as much layers and detail as possible, creating a third eye effect, where the portrait really comes to life from distance.
Sometimes taking a step back from your art and really started from scratch is how you really evolve your own unique art style.
What do you think of 'The Lion that Stares'?
