Celebrating Quino's 90th birthday

Quino was an Argentine cartoonist who created the iconic comic strip Mafalda, providing a voice for Latin America in times of political instability and censorship.

Google reached out to me to create this Doodle. I wanted to portray Quino creating the memorable world we all knew through his strips. I went through his self portraits and got inspired by the way he used to represent himself: focused, drawing, at his desk with paper sheets, pencils and his lamp.

From the beginning I pictured this Doodle black and white. I thought it’ll be a way to quickly evoke Quino’s strips. I also wanted to include some Mafalda references for readers to discover in the final piece!

Concept Sketches

This Doodle was available in 24 countries. Seeing it published on Google's homepage and receiving positive feedback from both my client and the public was a huge accomplishment for me. I also made a Reel and a Tik Tok talking about the process. Hope you enjoy!
