Social Media Campaign- IOHA

IOHA is the University of Johannesburg's HIV & AIDS wellness centre. Their services include screening for HIV & AIDS; offering support and promoting campaigns on barrier methods; caring for HIV-positive individuals; and campaigning for Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights movements.  Although anyone can contract HIV & AIDS, statistically, the youth of South Africa contract the disease the most. Tasked with creating a social media campaign to raise awareness of the issue, our goal was for our creative solution to educate our youth regarding common myths about HIV & AIDS. By learning more, we can protect ourselves and our loved ones. To attract the attention of the youth (our intended target audience), we opted to use bright colours and seductive illustrations. Each of these illustrations are based on a myth about HIV & AIDS. To complement them, and our design, we also illustrated condoms and HIV support ribbons. On the grid that our design is based around, the condoms represent ‘naughts’ and the ribbons represent ‘crosses’. (Like the game). Similar to our design ( where the ‘naughts’ line up diagonally), you win by using condoms! In addition to our message, this adds depth to our final design solution. Our call to action ties in with our message and is also attention-grabbing! It encourages our target audience to “Join the fight and bust (these) HIV & AIDS Myths!”. We also opted to design seductive illustrations to create a space where students can feel comfortable talking about sex and learning more about safe practices to further prevent the spread of HIV & AIDS.
