Habibi.Works 2023
Meet the maker Yaakoub
Katsikas, Greece
Yaakoub is a passionate and talented gardener. Until recently, he lived in Katsikas camp and started to grow his own garden inside the camp.
At the time that self-organized structures inside the camp were taken down, Yaakoub was no longer allowed to keep his garden.
(Read about the destruction of the structures in this article)
At this time, Yaakoub got involved in the Marker-space Habibi.Works, growing food in the community garden to be used in the daily community meals.
This is where I met him.
Yaakoub is the kind of human being you can feel the generous aura without understanding his language.
He has so much to share and I am very glad I had the chance to understand the meaning of his words.
I have been totally impressed by Yaakoub's strength, sensibility, and passion for plants, and thankful I had to opportunity to share a part of his story.
Yaakoub taught us the true meaning of resilience, and so much more.
Thank you, Yaakoub.
“For me, working in the field is better than being a doctor.
I want to see green. A green garden and green life. I see plants and I live with plants
This is all I need. It doesn't matter how tired you get if you gain crops.
I feel like I am somewhere else, not on this planet"
