Lord of the Flies Book Covers

Book Covers Project: Lord of the Flies
By Leah Holding
I was asked to create three different book covers for the classic "Lord of the Flies." The task was to create a typographic book cover, a handmade book cover, and a cover using materials and tools of our choice to represent the concepts from the book.
Typography Design Cover
For this typography cover I chose to put the type inside the glasses because they are a symbol of innocence in the book when Piggy wears them. I made the typography inside the glasses because the glasses are an important concept of identity and loss of innocence when they are broken in the book. I made the cover a dark red because of the bloodshed in the book.
Handmade Materials Cover
I made the book cover out of shells because then conch shell is a symbol of power and the cause of mob mentality. In the book, the boys listen to whoever has the shell in possession.
I made the book cover out of shadows because the mood of the book is dark and bad events happened at night. I also made a question mark out of blood because the boys stugggle with loss of identity and succumbing to man’s inherit evil.
